Week 10 Thing 24 - Summarize

The "25 Things" was interesting. I enjoyed learning some of the things that my kids have talked about; learning to 'Blog', 'Twitter' and all about 'Podcasts' of which some were fun and some serious. I did not like Technorati, it was just too confusing for me. I have used Wikis before and I'm sure I will continue to so do. I do not know how much of 2.0 I will use but at least I know a little more about it and that is a first step.
At the beginning this seemed very overwhelming but by breaking it down into sections and most importantly taking the time to "play" I was able to complete everything and understand (most of!!) it. I will have to take some time later and go back and "play" a little more........

Thanks Elaine, I did enjoy it......

Week 10 Thing 23 - Netlibrary

I have taken a look through Netlibrary this morning. There was certainly a variety of titles from children's, young adult and adult. I saw a favourite author of my parents (Lisa Gardner's title "Alone") and several titles of author Christine Feehan that I read. There were titles for people interested in business and the classics were represented as well. Quite a well rounded selection.

Week 10 Thing 22 Podcasts

This was different. I took a look at Worthington Library's Summer Reading Club " Just Read It"

http://www2.worthingtonlibraries.org/programs2go/media/video/download.cfm?section_id=3&media_id=106

Quite appropriate for the time......catchy too!!

Week 10 Thing 21 YouTube

Took a look around YouTube today. It certainly has a lot of videos on a lot of different subjects. As my husband is so interested in genealogy I chose to watch the following link :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcqDqc0SXgo

It was an interesting tour of the library and all the related genealogical materials they have.
It was also interesting to view the Susan Boyle hit song and some of the other song dance hits that have appeared on TV lately.

Video tours of our archives may be of interest to others (Like my husband)......

Week 9 Thing 20 - PBWiki

This is certainly a very fun site for exchanging ideas, lists and comments. As stated it is a site for "Play". I enjoyed Rhonda's cat slide show and received a few good tips on restaurants to visit.

Week 9 Thing 19 - Wikis

I found this "thing" to be really interesting to read about. You can in effect go from something very general to very specific and this would certainly save time and effort especially when needing particular hard to find information and very current info or using it as a forum for communication. I have used Wikipedia before and found that it was an excellent site for information, although I would advise to double-check with another resource. I have issues with its open edit and would hope that people would not corrupt the information contained in it. I certainly like the idea of the exchange of information within our WPL site; it was interesting to read some of the articles about OLA 2009, the information it contained as well as the personal viewpoint of the seminars

Week 7 Thing 17 - Perspectives

As I began reading the perspectives, I found that they were all extremely interesting that is why I continued to read them all.
I certainly agree with the statement contained in "Into the World of Librarianship".... "allow staff time to play and learn"..... this is crucial as we need this to understand what is out there and how to use it.
I like the statement in "To better bibligoraphic service".... "collaborating on cataloguing"...for cataloguers like myself, this would save time, I'm all for it.
The statement in Wikipedia Library 2.0 does sum everything up well though...."individual pieces of Library 2.0 may not be entirely new........new Web 2.0 technology has led to a new generation of library services. In this I agree.

Library 2.0 as a whole can be overwhelming but if you can break it down into individual pieces and take the time to learn them.....it is our future.
